How do you enjoy the art (paintings especially)?
I want to enjoy art the way I enjoy music, but I’m clueless. When I go to the art museum, I don’t really enjoy myself. Like I don’t know how to look at paintings other than literally looking at them. But I noticed by observing other people at the museum, some people spend quite a bit of time starring at each painting. For the people who enjoy looking at art paintings & spend a lot time looking at each painting, how are you spending your time? I mean how do you enjoy it?
A lot of what goes into the appreciation of art is knowing the history about it. What important events were going on at the time it was painted? How did this influence the painter? Who was the painter? Where was he/she from? How does a painting from Germany differ from a painting in Japan during the same time period? Most of the people looking at an artwork for more than 2 minutes know art very well and are asking themselves these questions.
